Revival of monsoon rain help pick up sowing activity in Marathwada



Sowing activity has picked up in all the districts of the Marathwada region in the wake of satisfactory rainfall in last couple of days, after a brief lull. Reports reaching here from all the district headquarters said that satisfactory rainfall was recorded in all the eight districts of the region since last two to three days. According to the sources, total 176 mm average rainfall was recorded so far in eight districts since June 1, which is 95 per cent of expected rainfall and 22.48 per cent of annual rainfall.


According to the sources in Agriculture Department, sowing activity has been picked up following the sufficient rainfall over the past two days in the region. Out of total 43 lakh hectares land in the region, sowing had been done on 20 lakh hectares so far and it was now underway in all the districts, they said. n the division, Nanded, Hingoli, Latur and Jalna districts received heavy rainfall compared to other districts.

Till the date, Nanded has recorded the highest 248 mm rainfall so far, followed by Hingoli-228 mm, Latur-188, Jalna-162, Parbhani-154, Osmanabad-149, Beed-143 and Aurangabad-128, they added.
