23rd anniversary of renaming of Marathwada University observed in Aurangabad


On the 23rd anniversary of the renaming of the Marathwada University after Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar, the members of the dalit community and people from all walks of life paid homage to Dr Ambedkar's statue at the main gate of BAMU campus. The day is observed to commemorate the martyrs who laid down their lives for the cause. The day is also celebrated as 'Sangharsh Din'. Since morning, people of various organizations reached the BAMU campus and paid floral tributes to Dr Ambedkar's statue. The entire area was decorated with colourful lighting and floral decoration.

The family members of 10 martyrs were honoured in a function at auditorium hall of BAMU campus in presence of chief guest Gangadhar Gade, while vice-chancellor Dr B A Chopade presided over the function this morning. Later, in the evening, a public rally was taken out in which several prominent leaders including Union Minister of State and RPI(A) chief Ramdas Athawale, MLC Jogendra Kawade, former minister Gangadhar Gade, Chandrakanat Handore and several others participated. Leaders and people from other districts of the region also arrived in the city and paid homage to Dr Ambedkar as well as attended the public rally in the evening.UNI
