Nine labourers die of suffocation in drainage chamber in Latur


Nine labourers have died of suffocation in a drainage tank at a private oil mill in Latur district of Maharashtra. According to reports, the mishap occurred yesterday around 1700 hrs when the labourers entered the drainage tank for cleaning. When there was no response from them for very long, a rescue operation was launched by breaking the tank and discharging the waste water. However, poisonous gas emanating from it hampered the rescue operation by several hours, police said. Revenue and police administration and guardian minister Sambhaji Patil Nilangekar rushed to the spot. 

However, around 0130 hrs, all the nine bodies were recovered from the tank. The victims were identified as-- Dagdu Pawar, Baliram Pawar, Narendra Tekale, Ram Terms, Rameshwar Shinde, Shivaji Sarkate, Maruthi Gaikwad, Parameshwara Birajdar and Akash Bhuse. Mr Nilangekar assured of all possible help to the victims' families and stern action against the oil mill management, he added.UNI
