Nandkumar Ghodele elected as Mayor of Aurangabad civic body


Shiv Sena corporator Nandkumar Ghodele and BJP corporator Vijay Autade were respectively elected as Mayor and Deputy Mayor of the Aurangabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) here on Sunday. In the 115-member House, Mr Ghodele and Mr Autade bagged 77 votes each, while AIMIM candidate Abdul Naikwade and Sangita Wagole got 25 votes each. 

The Congress nominee got only 11 votes. An NCP corporator remained absent while a Shiv Sena member was disqualified by the caste verification committee. As per the alliance agreement between the BJP and the Sena, Bapu Gadamode of BJP was the Mayor and Smita Ghogare of Sena was the Deputy Mayor since December last year, however, they resigned from the posts at the end of their term, paving the way for election. The party-wise position in 113-member House is as such Shiv Sena-29, AIMIM-24, BJP-23, Congress-11, BSP-5, NCP-4, RPI (D)-2 and Others-17.
