Mahavir Jayanti celebrated in Marathwada


The 2617th birth anniversary of Lord Mahavira is being celebrated on Thursday with traditional fervour and enthusiasm in Marathwada region. Reports reaching from different parts of the region said that on this occasion, various religious cultural and social programmes, including processions, vehicle rallies, blood donation camps, health camps, free meals anddevotional concerts, are being organised at various places in the region. In Aurangabad city, Sakal Jain Samaj (SJS) President Rajendra Darda and MLC Subhas Zambad unfurled the Jain flag on Thursday morning at Mahaveer Chowk, near Baba Petrol Pump.

Palkhis and Shoba yatra were also taken out from Paithan gate area, in presence of Jain spiritual gurus and other saints, along with all political parties, elected representatives and the entire Jain community members. In view of the present unsolved garbage dumping issue in the city, the SJS has decided to provide cleaning machinery to the civic body for this purpose. Apart from this, the SJS also decided to supply free food to all poor patients and their relatives in Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), throughout the year.

On this occasion, Palkhis and Shobha Yatras were also taken out from different Jain temples across the city.
