Philips Joins with MTDC to Light up Gateway of India on Jan 24.2014

Philips, in association with Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC), will give a complete lighting makeover to Mumbai's famous landmark, the Gateway of India, on January 24, 2014. The Gateway of India is not only going to go greener, but also more colourful as it gets a new energy-efficient LED lighting system, called Philips Color Kinetics. Utilising this one-of-a kind lighting system, the façade and mast of the iconic Gateway of India will now be able to change lighting scenes in real-time. This technologically-advanced LED lighting system offers a palette of 16 million shades that can be programmed to create dynamic and unique lighting shows. Besides, this lighting system is being designed specifically to blend into the existing architecture of the Gateway of India, also withstanding outside weather conditions and other external factors.

Commenting on the initiative, Dr Jagdish Patil, Managing Director, MTDC said, “For tourists as well as Mumbaikars, the Gateway of India has been a favourite place to hang around and spend time in leisure. Besides, the monument is one of the most important photographic icons of Mumbai. It is a delight to see a company like Philips taking the initiative of transforming the night time view of the Gateway of India with lights.”

Sumit Joshi, Head – Marketing, Philips Lighting India added here,“Philips is extremely proud to partner with MTDC to design the lighting of the Gateway of India. This initiative reiterates our commitment towards enhancing the magnificence of towering monuments in India with energy efficient lighting solutions. We are confident that the lighting makeover on January 24, 2014 will be amazing and will enhance the night time view of the Gateway of India.”

Ranbir Kapoor, brand ambassador for Philips Lighting India said, “As a Mumbaikar, it makes me immensely proud to know that the Gateway of India is going in for a spectacular visual makeover. The majestic monument is a must-visit in Mumbai and with this initiative it will surely become a must-visit at night.”

To commemorate the event, MTDC and Philips are reaching out to the masses to share their love for Mumbai by suggesting inspiring ideas that make the city better and brighter at night. A special microsite has been created where people can read up about this special initiative, share their ideas, and see interesting suggestions from others. People can also share their suggestions on Facebook and Twitter using #MumbaiInANewLight.

MTDC and Philips will also live stream the lighting of the iconic monument on various platforms. A Facebook app has also been created that will allow users to light up the Gateway of India in their own style and share their creations on social media platforms.
