Aurangabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) Plan To Start City Tourist Bus

The Aurangabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) is exploring opportunities to start a dedicated bus service for tourists visiting the city. Although the concept is at a nascent stage, the civic body is looking at promoting historically important spots in the city thereby attracting more tourists with the help of the facility.  Besides, civic authorities said that the bus service would also create a good image of the city at state, national and international levels. "More visitors would come to the city which means more revenue for the city. The activity would also help the civic body attract more funds from state and central governments," said Ramesh Pawar, additional municipal commissioner on Saturday.

"If we could operate the service efficiently, we may get funding from various departments for its expansion," he added. Initially the civic body will start a pilot project wherein it will run the service only for civic-school students. "We have recently asked our schools authorities to arrange tours of students to historically important spots in the city. There are more than 20,000 students in 77 different civic schools and every year they visit one spot. Now we want school authorities to take the students to the main tourist places," he said.

The civic body is looking at offering a complete package tour wherein the students would be taken to Bibi-ka-Maqbara, Panchakki, Siddhartha Garden and zoo, Aurangabad caves, Dr Saleem Ali Lake garden, etc. It will be a day-long tour offered at reasonable charges.  "The bus service is likely to start for the AMC students from the upcoming Diwali vacation and very soon it will be extended for students of other schools," he said. "Based on its feasibility, the facility would be made available to the general public," Pawar said.

Pawar said that the civic body would execute the plan in association with the Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC) and the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC). "We have recently met the senior officials in the MSRTC and the MTDC and they have shown interest in the facility. The MSRTC will provide busses while the MTDC is expected to guide the tourists," he said.
