Maharashtra to get clean drinking water soon: Lonikar

Maharashtra water supply minister Babanrao Lonikar today said that the government will implement the clean drinking water supply scheme in the state on the lines of Gujarat. For that, a special technical department will be set up, he informed during a felicitation function organised by the Zilla Marathi Patrakar Sangh here.  

Mr Lonikar, an MLA from the Partur assembly constituency, who was in city for the first time since his induction in the state cabinet, said that in view of the scarcity-like situation prevailing in Marathwada and Vidarbha regions due to the scanty rainfall this monsoon season which may effectively lead to migration of people in search of livelihood in future, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has directed all ministers and MLAs to assess the situation of scarcity-hit areas in their respective constituencies.

He further said Mr Fadnavis has allotted funds of Rs 400 crore to the water supply department for implementing the scheme. The minister said that this is for the first time in last 15 years the state government has waived off farmers agriculture pump set electricity bills besides providing employment to affected people under the Employment Gurantee Scheme (EGS), he added. MLAs Atul Save and Narayan Kuche were present on the occasion.
