Only 16 mm average rainfall in past 24 days in Marathwada

The Marathwada region,comprising eight districts has recorded only 16 mm average rainfall during the past 24 days. Due to this, a water scarcity crisis and drought-like situation is looming large over the region. Up to June 22, 109.82 average rainfall was recorded up to June 22,and since then, till today, during the past 24 days, 124.52 mm average rainfall was recorded. Which means that only 16 mm rainfall was recorded in the last 24 days, which is 53 per cent of expected rainfall and 16 per cent of annual rainfall since June 1, reports said.

According to the Divisional official sources, total 124.52 mm average rainfall was recorded in the eight district so far in which Aurangabad district recorded the highest at 173 mm rainfall while the lowest stood at 81 mm in Beed district.

As for the other districts, Hingoli district recorded 165 mm rainfall, Nanded district recorded 164 mm rainfall, Jalna district 133 mm rainfall, Latur 101 mm, Parbhani 89 mm and Osmanabad 86 mm rainfall, the reports said. Given this situation, there is a fear that farmers will have tore-sow their crops due to lack of rain. Also, due to the long dry spell, all water resources combined in this region have only five per cent live water stock remaining.
