Police harness WhatsApp, Facebook for registering complaints

Aurangabad city police have harnessed the social media applications in order to make it easier for the public to register their complaints and help to control crime, the police announced today. Addressing a press conference here today, city Police Commissioner Mr Amitesh Kumar said, WhatsApp has been activated on mobile number 8390022222. People could send their complaints between 1000 hrs to 2000 hours to the respective police station chiefs who will try to solve the issue or initiate action within a short period. The same will also be followed by the Police Commissioner, said Mr Kumar. The identity of the people who post their complaints over WhatsApp will not be revealed unless the concerned people prefer to reveal it.

Complaint between 20:00 hours to 10:00 hours of next day will be sent morning time of next day. In case of any emergency in the period, the people could contact on toll free number 100, 1091, (0240) 224500 and (0240) 2351348. To create awareness of the WhatsApp option, the police will undertake a cycle rally in the city and have appealed to the school students and women to participate in it for its awareness among the society, he said. 

Mr Kumar further said, we have also decided to launch a Facebook account by the name of Aurangabad City Police to listen to grievances of citizens in which people can directly send their requests to the police. Talking about the innovative plans adopted by the police, Mr Kumar said the police wants to create a healthy relationship between citizens and the police in which communication from both the sides can be passed on to each other
