Maharashtra celebrates Dussehra


Vijayadashmi, a symbol of victory of good over evil is being celebrated in the eight districts of the region by Hindu community with traditional fervor. Reports stated that, people thronged to markets to buy clothes, flowers, puja articles and sweets. The nine-day-long Navratri festival which began on October 13 with a 'Ghatasthapana' (installation of the idol of Goddess) at two 'Shaktipeeths' in Marathwada region, including Mahur 'Renuka Mata' in Nanded district and 'Maa Tulja Bhavani' at Tuljapur in Osmanabad district, with the the Navami and Dashmi falling on the same daytoday, the procession of immersion of installed devi idols has been started this afternoon.

About 10 to 15 lakhs each devotees from state and neighbouring states visited these temples for 'Darshan' of Goddess Renuka and Tulja Bhavani, sources said. Later, this evening effigies of Ravana, Indrajit and Kumbhakarna will be burnt at different places including Ramlila ground, TV centre and Waluj locality.
