Nine-day long Navratri begins in Marathwada

The nine-day-long Navratri festival began with 'Ghatasthapana' (installation of the idol of Goddess) at two 'Shaktipeeths' in Marathwada region, including Maher's 'RenukaMata' in Nanded district and 'Maa Tulja Bhavani' at Tuljapur in Osmanabad district. Goddess Mahur and Tuljapur are the two 'Shaktipeeths' out of 52 in the country.

About 10 to 15 lakhs devotees from state and neighbouring states are expected to visit the temple for 'Darshan' of Goddess Renuka during the nine-day long festival, sources said. The temple authorities have installed CCTV cameras, while police have beefed up the security arrangements to avoid any untoward incident during the festival.

The temple will remain opened from 0400 hrs to 0000 hrs for darshan during the festival period, they added. Lakhs of devotees of Maa Bhavani left with Bhavani Jyot towards their respective places for Ghatasthapana after taking darshan at Tuljabhavani. The nine-day festival at Ambejogai tehsil of Latur district began with the Ghatasthapana at Ma Yogeshwari temple. Ghatasthapana and worship were performed at several Goddess's temple in and around the city and in the district.
