Chinese Vice-Prez arrives on five-day visit, to see Ajanta caves first

Marking an upswing in ties between the two Asian giants, Chinese Vice-President Li Yuanchao arrived in Aurangabad today evening on a five-day official visit to India. Mr Li will visit the famous Ajanta Caves tomorrow in Aurangabad. Trimbak Ganpatrao Tupe, Mayor of Aurangabad, will call on the visiting dignitary. Mr Li will later fly to Kolkata and visit Jorasanko Thakurbari. He will meet Mamata Banerjee, Chief Minister of West Bengal and fly to Delhi same evening.

On Friday, he will meet his counterpart Vice-President Hamid Ansari which will be followed by the signing of agreements and MoUs. Mr Li will also call on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Pranab Mukherjee before leaving for a business dinner hosted by Indian and Chinese entrepreneurs. Mr Li is visiting India on the invitation of Mr Ansari. '' Mr Li's visit marks another major interaction between China and India this year,'' Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lu Kang said on Saturday.

"He will also meet with other Indian leaders. The two sides will work to further implement the consensus reached between President Xi Jinping, Premier Li Keqiang and Indian leaders, carry forward China-India friendship, deepen bilateral cooperation, and add new momentum to the development of China-India relations," Mr Lu said. "Thanks to the concerted efforts of the two sides, recent years have seen sound and stable development of the strategic cooperative partnership for peace and prosperity between China and India," he added.

Mr Lu observed that the two sides "have deeper exchanges and cooperation across the board," and maintain sound coordination and cooperation on international and regional affairs. Leaders of the two sides have agreed to promote bilateral cooperation in an all-round way, and forge a closer partnership for development, he said.

"The Chinese side views bilateral ties from a strategic and long-term perspective, and takes India's development as an opportunity. We stand ready to work with India to implement the consensus reached between leaders of the two countries, and elevate the strategic cooperative partnership for peace and prosperity between China and India to a new high," the chinese VP said.

This will be fourth high-level visit from Chinese leadership to India in less than six months after the tours of Foreign Minister Yang Jeichi, President Xi, and Premier Li. Chinese Defence Ministry has also announced visit of General Fan Changlong, who is also Vice-Chairman of an all powerful Central Military Commission(CMC) of China sometime mid of this month.
