1.4 TMC water to be released from Jayakwadi dam to 4 affected districts of Marathwada

In view of acute drinking water shortage in Marathwada region due to the scanty rainfall, the Maharashtra government has decided to release 1.4 TMC water from Jayakwadi dam to the four affected districts of the region only for drinking purposes. An official statement here today stated that water will be released within two days to the parched districts of Aurangabad, Beed, Jalna and Parbhani, so the people of affected districts will get drinking water.

At present, 1,640 tankers have been pressed into service to supply the drinking water to 1,219 affected villages and 461 hamlets of Marathwada. The directive to release the water from the Jayakwadi dam was given by Water Conservation Minister Pankaja Munde to Aurangabad Divisional Commissioner Umakant Dangat. At present, there is only 3.5 per cent live water stock available in the biggest dam of the region.
