Food Security Act to cover entire India by April: Paswan


Union Minister of Food and Public Distribution Ram Vilas Paswan today declared that the National Food Security Act (FSA) will cover the entire country by April. Talking to reporters here after a meeting with FCI department officials, he said that till today 25 states in the country were availing the benefits of FSA since it was passed in 2013 and the remaining states will be covered by April this year, he pointed.

The Minister further said that the direct transfer of cash to the bank accounts of intended beneficiary has been started in Pondicherry and Chandigarh at present and it will be extended to other parts of the country, he informed. The work of uploading details of all the beneficiaries online is currently in progress, he said.

Mr Paswan further said that the bill for some changes in the Consumer Forum Act has been placed before the parliamentary committee and hoped it would be passed in coming session. The Minister added that his Ministry was keen to open an FCI office at Aurangabad for the Marathwada region.
