Helmet to be made compulsory for two-wheelers riders across Maharashtra : Raote


The Maharashtra government will soon make wearing of the helmet compulsory for the riders of two-wheeler across the state, said Transport Minister Diwakar Raote today. Mr Raote, who was in city for a function, indicated that the state government was considering to enforce compulsory wearing of helmet for the safety of two-wheeler riders and pillions across the state.

The Minister, along with City Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar and senior police officials, felicitated those motorcyclists, who were wearing helmets on the road. Mr Raote felicitated them by handing over a rose to them at Amarprit Chowk on Jalna road. The Aurangabad District Police has made compulsory, wearing of helmets in the district from February one onwards. Police department claimed that over 75 per cent riders were seen wearing helmets during the past two days. Special squads were carrying out checks to punish errant riders. They have recovered Rs 7.50 lakh in fine from about more than 8,000 riders during the past two days, said police officials.
