Leopard pair released in Siddartha Zoo of Aurangbad

A pair of male and female leopards, brought here from Bhamragadh Hemalkasa Zoo in Gadchiroli district of the Vidharbha region, were today released in Siddartha Zoo of the Aurangabad Municipal Corporation (AMC). Talking to UNI, B S Naikwade, director of AMC Zoo, said, ''In view of a lone female leopard present in our zoo, we had written to the central Forest authorities three months back requesting to send a leopard pair in our zoo here.''

Accordingly, the authorities have sent a pair of male and female leopards from Bhamragadh-Hemalkasa Zoo of Prakash Amte, the son of Baba Amte. A five-member team, led by him, had left on Monday and reached here with the pair this morning, he said. Mr Naikwade further said the seven-year-old male leopard is named Raja and four-year-old female leopard's name is Renuka. City Mayor Traymbak Tupe along with officials visited the zoo this afternoon and expressed satisfaction over their health, he added.
