Drought situation worsen in Marathwada


Situation in Marathawada has worsened further this year due to scanty rainfall, as 2189 tankers have been quenching the thirst of Marathwada as compared to 2017 tankers in previous week. According to the Divisional Commissioner, weekly official report stated that, currently 2189 water tankers are engaged in Marathwada to meet drinking water problem faced by 1632 villages and 598 hamlets .

The report further stated that in Beed district 458 villages and 371 hamlets are getting water through 597 water tankers followed by Aurangabad districts 486 takers to 376 villages and eight hamlets, Osmanabad district 272 tankers for 194 villages and seven hamlet, Nanded district 260 tankers for 151 villages and 111hamlets, Jalna district 251 tankers for 188 villages and 36 hamlets, Latur district 195 water tankers for 151 villages and 38 hamlets, Parbhani district 114 tankers for 98 villages and 27 hamlets and Hingoli 14 tankers for 16 villages and seven hamlets.

At present ground water level has been depleting due to scanty rainfall and all the water resources in the region are running dry due to less rainfall. All the major, minor and medium dams of the region have run dry due to insufficient rainfall showing five percent live water stocks, the report added. As many as 4913 wells have been adopted by the respective districts administrations for drinking water purpose, the report added.
