Mahashivratri celebrated with tradition and fervour in Marathwada


Festival of 'Mahashivratri'is being celebrated with traditional enthusiasm and religiousfervour by devotees across Marathwada today. Devotees observed fast and held prayers to Lord Shiva. Of the 12 Jyotirlingas, three fall in the Marathwada. Marathwada is also known as Bhoomi of Saints (santanchi bhoomi) In historic Aurangabad city, devotees turned up in large numbersat the famous Shiva Temple situated in Khadkeshwar area. A number offaithful devotees, especially women, were also seen in differentparts in and around the city worshiping Lord shiva (Shivlinga) with belpatri and flowers.

Report from Ellora said that serpentine queues were seen fora darshan of the Jyotirlinga known as 'Grushneswar temple' about35 km from Aurangabad. The historic Ellora heritage is known for itsworld famous 'Kailash Cave'.

'Parli-Vaijnath' Jyotirlinga in Parli tehsil in Beed district(one of 12 Jyotirlingas in the country) also saw long queues of devoteessince morning. The third Jyotirlinga in Marathwada -- 'Aundha Nagnath', inAundha tehsil of Hingoli district also had devotees thronging fordarshan in the Shiva Temple.

'Shivalingas' are worshipped on the auspicious festival andspecial poojas and 'Abhishek' (prayers and offerings) are performedon the occasion. Police have made special arrangements to cope with the extrarush of devotees across the region, they stated.
