BJP, Cong win on 2 new wards of Aurangabad civic corporation bypoll



The BJP and Congress candidates defeated their nearest rival of Shiv Sena in a closely contested by-election to two new wards of Aurangabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) held, the result of which was announced today. In election to a new ward number 114 (Deorali), Appasaheb Hivale of BJP defeated his nearest rival Haribhau Hivale of Shiv Sena, a distant relative, in a closely fought by-election to Aurangabad Municipal Corporation (AMC).

While the BJP candidate got 4,159 votes, the Sena candidate garnered 3,217 votes, the sources in election office here said. Congress nominee Raju Narwade was the second runner-up with 2,091 votes. Though BJP and Shiv Sena are in alliance in AMC, they contested the by-election separately. In election to another new ward number 115 (Satara), Congress nominee Sayali Jamadar defeated Shiv Sena candidate Pallavi Gaikwad.

While Ms Jamadar secured 3,043 votes, Ms Gaikwad got 2,863 votes. In Deorali, 69 per cent voting was registered, while in Satara 9 per cent voters had cast their votes. Counting of votes in both the wards began this morning at 1000 hrs at APJ Public Schools at Beed bypass road area amid tight security. The by-election to two new wards was necessitated after they were included into AMC from the gram sabha areas, the sources added. Meanwhile, NCP, MNS and All India Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul Muslimeen (AIMIM) did not contest the election.
