Pradhanya Gram Yojna launched in Marathwada to overcome scarcity

In view of the prevailing drought condition in this Madhya Pradesh district due to scanty rainfall during the last three years, the district administration has taken up several measures, including the 'Pradhanya Gram Yojna' (Priority for rural growth) for the farmers, District Collector Nidhi Pandey said today.

Under the scheme, works in 102 villages were in progress out of 223 selected villages, Dr Pandey said, addressing a news conference here. Besides, water conservation works under the state government's 'Jalyukat Shivar' scheme has been undertaken in several villages, where work for conservation of water was in progress to arrest rain water for increasing the ground level of water.
Dr Pandey said the entire Marathwada region was reeling under drought conditions since the last three consecutive years. Farmers were especially facing a lot of problems due to shortage of acute drinking water and fodder for the cattle, she added.The main water resource, Jayakwadi dam in the district, was also running dry this year and water was being lifted from its dead storage at present, the DC pointed out.
