Give loan waiver to farmers, else NCP activists will take to streets: Pawar

Former deputy chief minister of Maharashtra and senior Nationalist Congress Party leader Ajit Pawar today reiterated the party's demand for loan waiver to affected farmers of the state and also of remunerative rates for their farm products. Addressing to affected farmers at 'Drought Council' organised by NCP at Parasnagari in Beed city, Mr Pawar, who is on a two-day tour of the affected parts of Marathwada region and parts of Ahmednagar district, cautioned that if the BJP-Shiv Sena-led state government failed to waive off the loans of affected farmers of thestate, NCP along with farmers will come onto the streets for their demand.

He said the intensity of drought in the state was getting worse day by day causing panic among the farmers but the state government was simply making inquiries and appointing committees instead of helping the affected farmers, he alleged. When the BJP and Sena were in opposition, they used to criticise the previous Congress-NCP combine government on the same issue but now when they are in power they have forgetten their responsibility, he alleged further.

Even as the state government has completed one and half years in power, they not taken any major decisions for the welfare of farmers in the state, the NCP leader allaged. Mr Pawar also demanded that in view of the current drought situation and upcoming Monsoon season which is just a month away, the state government should provide seeds, fertiliser and pesticides free of cost to the affected farmers.

MLA Jaydutt Kshirsagar prsided over the drought council. Leader of the Opposition in state Legislative Council Dhannjay Munde and MLC Vikram Kale also spoken on the occasion. Several farmers from the district were present in the council. Earlier this morning, Mr Pawar visited the Bhutwada village in Ahmednagar district and inspected the works of water conservation.
