Pawar targets BJP Govt, gives ultimatum to fulfil demands of affected farmers

Nationalist Congress Party(NCP) supremo Sharad Pawar today gave an ultimatum to the BJP-ledgovernment, both in state and at Centre, that if it did not fulfilthe demands of affected farmers before June 5, then partyactivists will come onto the streets along with farmers.
Addressing a 'Drought Council' organised by the party atDeogiri College ground here this evening, he asked, ''Where is AccheDin as promised by Prime Minister Narendra Modi after the landslidevictory in the Lok Sabha election'', and quipped that 'Logoki Ho GaiBhool, Kamal Ka Phul'.
Mr Pawar said, ''Mr Modi's government is going to complete twoyears in office, but 'acche din abi tak aye nahi'.''
He said that the Marathwada region in Maharashtra was reelingunder the worst ever drought in the country, where 418 distressedfarmers had committed suicide in eight districts of the region sinceJanuary this year till date.
Talking about the shortage of water in the region, Mr Pawarsaid that due to the severe shortage of water, several villagersfrom the region had migrated to other places in search of work fortheir livelihood.
The former Union Agriculture Minister expressed concern aboutthe fodder camps in the state, saying the condition of cattle wasnot good and several farmers were selling the cattle in the localmarkets or sending them to slaughter houses, he added.
In the 'Drought Council', widows of 141 farmers from thedistrict who had committed suicide due to infertility of land andmounting debt were handed over a cheque of Rs 15,000 to each widowas financial assistance from 'NCP Welfare Trust' to enable them tomake arrangement for cultivation of their land and purchase of seedsas well as fertiliser during upcoming kharif season.
On the occasion, the top brass of party including statepresident Sunil Tatkare, Leader of opposition in state LegislativeCouncil Dhananjay Munde, Ajit Pawar, Dilip Valse-Partil, RajeshTope, Satish Chavan, district chief Bhausaheb Chikatgaonkar,Surjitsingh Khunger and all the office-bearers from district unitwere present. Primary demands of the affected farmers are waiver in loan andto waive off tuition fees of their student among others.
