Water problem to be solved thru 'Watergrid' : Min Maharashtra State cabinet water supply minister Babanrao Lonikar today said that major irrigation project in the Marathwada would be connected through 'Watergrid' system on the lines of Telangana,Gujrat and Tamilnadu to overcome the scarcity of drinking water in region. Addressing a press conference here, Mr Lonikar said, "we cas brought the total water of 18.62 TMC through Grid system by laying pipelines of totally 15000 kms to connect various dams to each other. He also revealed the project will be around of Rs.6500 crores . Of them 60 percent share of central government and 40 percent of state government.


Water supply department chalkout the proposal plans and submit to the government for the approval. "Under the grid system we can able to bring the water of 5.85 TMC from Ujani dam in Solapur to Manjara Dam in Beed district of Marathwada region would help also to Latur and Osmanabad district."

He further said that, 8.46 TMC water would lifted from biggest dam of Jayakwadi project situated in Aurangbad district while district while 3.85 TMC water from Isapur dam to bring for Nanded district and 0.10 TMC from Wagur Project of Jalgaon district from where water would bring to Soygaon Taluka of Aurnagabad district. Due to the implementations of the Grid system in the region around 40 percent of population covering more than 1.86 crores from urban and rural will be benefitted and crises of the water scarcity will be solved, Mr Lonikar added.
