Latest Updates !! Nearly 200 firecracker stalls gutted in fire in Aurangabad

A major fire broke out today in a make-shift firecrackers market set up for Diwali festival at Zilla Parisahd ground here, gutting at least 200 stalls. However, no casualty has been reported so far in the incident. The blaze broke out in a stall and it soon engulfed other stalls in the market, as a result, the entire area was enveloped with smoke of harmful chemicals used in manufacture of firecrackers, sources in Fire Brigade said. More than half a dozen fire engines accompanied with water tankers rushed to the spot and the firefighters successfully doused the blaze in over an hour, now, the situation is under control, they said. Soon after the fire broke out, all the customers and stall owners fled to safety. Besides stalls, at least 26 cars, more than 200 two-wheelers and some three-wheelers parked in a nearby parking lot were gutted or scorched in the blaze. The damage could be worth several crores of rupees. After coming to know of incident, city police commissioner Amitesh Kumar, district collector Nidhi Pandey, Aurangabad Municipal commissioner Om Prakash Bakoria and Mayor Traimbak Tupe along with top officials of MSEDCL and insurance company rushed to the spot to take stock of the situation. Cause of the fire has yet to be ascertained, police said.
Aurangabad city MP Chandrakant Khaire demanded an inquiry into the fire incident and said that he will seek compensation from the state government to all the stall owners and the vehicle owners whose vehicles were gutted in the fire. Meanwhile, collector Ms Pandey has ordered an inquiry into the fire incident. Some of the firecracker stall owners alleged that there was no fire engine present on the ground when the fire broke out, otherwise, it could have been brought under control within a short span. City police commissioner said that if anybody is found guilty in this incident, police will register an offence against them.
