Water grid to take shape in four years in Marathwada region: Lonikar

Maharashtra water Supply Minister Babanrao Lonikar today said the proposed 'Watergrid' in Marathawada on the line of Gujarat, Tamil Nadu and Telangana would be developed in next four years as the state government has made budgetary provisions of Rs 15000 crore in two phase. The project will connect all major water reservoirs in the region.

Addressing a press conference here Mr Lonikar said, "the region is facing shortage of severe drinking water since last three to four years due to the scanty rainfall and central government water supply schemes 'Rastriya Water Jal Yojana' and 'Bharat Nirman Yojana' also affected due to the water resources have been dried and water ground level also depleted day by day in the region." Hence his ministry made a plan to implement 'Watergrid' scheme of 18.62 TMC water in entire region which will be made reserve only for drinking purpose to connecting through pipelines to all major reservoirs costing of Rs.15,000 crores in phase manner would complete in your years. In the first phase estimate of Rs 6500 crore and second phase Rs 8500 crore and expenses for its proposal and survey would be Rs 15 crores.
