Huge participation in Maratha Kranti Morcha in Aurangabad

Members of the Maratha community today took part in Maratha Kranti Morcha atPhulambri in the district, to protest against the gangrape and murder of a teenage girl at Kopardi village in Ahmednagar district on July 13. The silent march started from sugar factory in Phulambri and ended near the tehsildar's office. Later, a delegation of the agitators submitted a memorandum of their demands to the tehsildar.

In the memorandum, they condemned the rape incident and demanded to expedite the case in a fast-track court and award capital punishment to all perpetrators involved in the act within six months. Their other demands were reservation for Maratha community, amendment in Atrocity Act and implementation of recommendation of Swaminathan Committee report, loan waiver to all farmers and Rs5,000 crore provision for Annasaheb Patil Financial Development Corporation, it added. The Rural Police had deployed additional force for security, in view of huge participation in the march. According to police, about one lakh people, including political leaders, women and students participated in the silent march. While, the organisers claimed that the number was three lakh.
