Marathas take out another 'Kranti Muk Morcha' in Aurangabad Dist

Hundreds of people today participated in the 'Maratha Kranti Muk Morcha' in Kannad town of the district, about 60 km away from here, demanding justice for thefamily of a teenage girl who was gangraped and murdered at Kopardi village in Ahmednagar district on July 13. A large number of people belonging to the Maratha community from the entire Kannad taluka, including political leaders, women and students, took out the silent march from Girni ground of the Kannad town and culminated at the same venue. En route it passed through College road, Hivarkheda road, Shani mandir, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj statue, Annabhau Sathe chowk and government guest house.

Later, a delegation of five girl students handed over amemorandum of their demands to the tehsildar. In the memorandum, the Maratha community condemned the rapeand murder of the girl and demanded to expedite the case in a fast-track court and award capital punishment to all perpetratorsinvolved in the dirty and gory act within six months. Their other demands are reservation for Maratha community,amendment to Atrocity Act and implementation of recommendation of Swaminathan Committee report, loan waiver to all farmers andprovision of Rs 5,000 crore for Annasaheb Patil FinancialDevelopment Corporation, they added.

Meanwhile, the Rural Police had deployed heavy force forsecurity along the route of the march to avoid any untoward incidentin anticipation of huge participation in the march. The Maratha community has been organisingsilent marches across the state since the Kopardi incident insupport of their demands.
