Win-win situation for BJP; 40 MC presidents, 455 corporators elected

BJP today won with a thumping majority in Maharashtra Municipal Council polls by electing 40 Municipal Council Presidents and 455 corporators. Reacting to the outcome of first phase of polls the result of which was announced here, BJP spokesperson Shirsh Boralkar told UNI that the people had reposed faith in the state government led by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. Expressing his joy over the election result, he said in 2011 Sate Municipal Council election, BJP was on third rank but this year people have voted for BJP with a thumping majority by electing 40 municipal council presidents and 455 corporators.

He said the people of Maharashtra have given mandate to BJP because of transparent governance and clean image of Mr Fadnavis. Talking about today's 'Akrosh Agitation' (Bharat Bandh) called by opposition and Left parties across the country, Mr Boralkar said that it failed to have any impact as business establishments and other activities were going on as usual in the Marathwada region and the state. ''It means all the common people are behind our initiative of demonetisation of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 currency notes to curb corruption and black money,'' the BJP leader expressed. The party-wise position of municipal council presidents and corporators was as such in Marathwada -- Congress 21 and 333, Shiv Sena 22 and 187 and NCP 13 and 231, Mr Boralkar added.UNI
