Abdul Sattar resigns as president of Congress in Aurangabad

Sitting Congress MLA from Sillod, Abdul Sattar, today resigned from post of the district unit president. Making an announcement here this evening, Mr Sattar, a staunch supporter of MPCC chief Ashok Chavan, said that he was going to submit his resignation to party high command as district president of party but clarified that he would remain in the party-fold.

Explaining about his decision, he further said he took this decision because top party leaders including Leader of Opposition in state assembly Radhakrishna Vikhe-Patil, MPCC chief Ashok Chavan, Balashab Thorat and other leaders did not campaign for the Congress party nominees ahead of the just-concluded Municipal Council elections in the district. On the other hand, ruling BJP's leaders including Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and others campaigned for the party candidates in the election, leading to their victory, he said.

''Hence, I have decided to quit as district chief and will work to strengthen the Congress party for the welfare of people,'' he said. Mr Satter alleged that there were irregularities in counting of votes in Gangapur Municipal Council and said that they have lodged a complaint about the incident to the Election Commission and district collector. Mr Sattar is the staunch supporter of MPCC chief Ashok Chavan and was a minister in Mr Chavan's ministry. He was appointed as district chief in April this year.UNI
