BAMU introduces sanitary pad vending machines on campus


city's Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar University (BAMU) campus has led the way, not by talk, but byactual practice. The university authorities recently installed eight sanitary napkin vending machines on the university's premises. There are talks now to install more machines at every department as well...The National Commission for Women (NCW) had requested the state government's Higher & Technical Education Department for sanitary napkin vending machines to be installed in colleges across the state. 

The step was aimed to facilitate hygiene and encourage female students to practice and talk about using sanitary pads in public.Suhas Morale, director of students welfare at BAMU, said, "A total of eight sanitary pad vending machine, each having a capacity of 25-50 sanitary napkins, have been installed at the seven girls hostels on the university campus and one in the washroom of the main building. Adjacent to each vending machine, independent disposing machines have also been placed for the used napkins." Morale added that each vending machine was purchased at a cost of `21,500, while each disposing machine costs `20,500. "The funds were arranged from the 12th plan of the University Grants Commission (UGC)," he added.
