800 points to be under CCTV vigil

Aurangabad: The state government will install 1,500 CCTV cameras at 800 squares across the city under the smart city project.The city will get six drone cameras and a mobile surveillance van, similar to the smart city project being carried out in Nagpur.On January 1, Aurangabad city police started monitoring city streets and squares with 50 CCTVs without waiting for official inauguration by state ministers. These cameras were installed under phase I of the smart city project.Commissioner of police Amitesh Kumar said, "With Aurangabad bagging a seat in the list of cuties to be developed as smart cities across the country, the security and monitoring apparatus have received a boost. We are set to get 1,500 CCTV cameras at 800 squares, apart from six drone cameras and a mobile surveillance van."The police also have a dedicated control room to monitor the footage recorded on CCTV cameras. 

"With CCTV cameras likely to become functional before the year ends, prevention, detection and conviction in crime cases will reach a new high," a police official said.As per the plans, the CCTV project proposal will be sent to the state by June or July and the cameras are set to be installed by October or November, before they officially start functioning.On Wednesday, civic body chief Omprakash Bakoria, along with the city police chief attended a video conference with the IT secretary V M Gautal at the divisional commissionerate. The agenda included discussions on the smart city project, use of fibre optic cables and setting up Wi-Fi in the city.The meeting also saw attendance of IT director Shankar Narayan and Sameer Sharma from a Singapore-based private company who has been roped to implement the project. Other civic officials also were part of the meet..
