Aurangabad Station first to get Wi-Fi in division

Aurangabad: Adding another feather to its cap, the Aurangabad railway station has become the first in Marathwada and South Central Railway's (SCR) Nanded division to offer Google's free Wi-Fi facility. RailWire, Google's free Wi-Fi facility, which is being introduced by the Indian Railways at a major railway stations across the country in phases, was formally inaugurated at Aurangabad station by Union railway minister Suresh Prabhu through a remote-link from Parli.SCR authorities said that a total of 19 access points have been designated at the station for internet coverage."We had conducted a pilot run of the Wi-Fi facility recently and launched it officially on Saturday after fixing the glitches and improvising the system. Conscious efforts are being taken to ensure that the facility runs in a smooth manner on a sustainable basis," said A K Sinha, divisional railway manager for Nanded division of SCR.He said, "Passengers should not hesitate to share any feedback about free Wi-Fi facility with the top-brass of SCR. If the happen to face any technical glitches, passengers should immediately bring it to my notice. 

The SCR has a presence on social media and it can be used for sharing real-time feedback in order to ensure uninterrupted and smooth access to Wi-Fi facility," Sinha said.While over 12,000 passengers book unreserved tickets from Aurangabad railway station every day, the station witnesses a footfall of over 34,000 passengers on any given day. All these travellers will be benefited from the free internet initiative.SCR authorities also claimed that the city was among the very few railway stations across the country to have both cashless and free Wi-Fi facilities.On March 25, Aurangabad railway station was declared as first Digital Payment enabled ( DigiPay) station in Maharashtra, offering cashless mode of transactions for all purposes."While the Ministry of Railways had already set up free Wi-Fi services in 100 stations by the end of 2016, it is planning to extend the benefit to 400 more stations by the end of 2017," authorities said.Railway activist Raj Somani, said, "The SCR authorities should ensure Wi-Fi facility runs smoothly. The system could develop technical sang considering the large number of users and therefore, constant monitoring is required.
