Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University to shut down one of its two websites

After realising that Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University (Bamu) has two operational websites — and — the varsity has decided to pull down one of them. Vice-chancellor B A Chopade on Sunday called for a meeting of Information Technology (IT) staff and others where strict instructions were given that all online operations must take place through one website.

University's public relations officer Sanjay Shinde said one of the websites would be shut down by early next month. "It is not possible to pull down one of the websites immediately as data hosted on it needs to be transferred to the other website," Shinde said, adding that university would soon have a single modified website. Chopade also stressed on the need of having an effective website for the varsity during the meeting. "The national and international ranking agencies evaluate the performance of institutions on certain parameters by directly fetching information from official websites. It is therefore detrimental to have two-websites," Shinde said.

Educational activists have already demanded a probe into existence of multiple websites for the A grade university.  "It needs to be examined whether the university has been incurring financial losses due to the operation and maintenance of more than one website along with causing confusion among the student community," an activist demanded. Bamu authorities, however, have ruled out any such probe. Students from Aurangabad, Jalna, Beed and Osmanabad districts along with those from other states of the country seek the online assistance for information related to admissions and examinations.

One of the two websites in operation largely carries information related to examination and results. It has been found that websites of other state universities host such information on a link dedicated to examination section. Educational activist Tukaram Saraf said the varsity should do away with the undesired website immediately. "The desired work can be completed within a week and there is no need to wait for the next month," he said.
