Maratha Kranti coordination committee to meet CM; ask about their demands

The coordination committee of the Maratha Kranti Morcha will directly meet Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis at a function on Saturday to press for their demands which have not been fulfilled despite his assurances.A decision to this effect was taken in a meeting of coordination committee held here on Thursday.

The committee said its main demand was to expedite the trial of the Khopardi rape and murder case. They voiced concern over the delay in justice to the family of a teenaged girl from Khopardi village, who was gangraped and murdered on July 15, 2016. The committee has already taken out at least 70 silent marchesacross the state. The Kranti Morcha had demanded to expedite the trial in the fast track court and award capital punishment to all perpetrators involved in the case, they said.Their other demands include reservation for Maratha community, amendment to Atrocity Act, total loan waiver for all farmers and implementation of recommendations of the Swaminathan Committee report among others.

They alleged that except for an assurance from the Chief Minister and appointment of a committee, under the presidentship of Revenue Minister Chandrakant Patil, nothing has be done so far. Hence, the committee had decided to ask Mr Fadnavis about the status of their demands, they added. Mr Fadnavis and Governor C Vidyasagar Rao will be in the city on Friday to inaugurate the tallest pillar built in memory of martyrs who laid down their lives to get independence for Marathwada region from theerstwhile ruler Nizam of Hyderabad.
