Marathi writer Dr Gangadhar Pantawane passes away


Senior literary, thinker and 'Asmita Darshan' founder editor, Dr Gangadhar Pantawane passed away here on Tuesday due to prolonged illness, family sources said. He was 81 and is survived by two daughters. Pantawane was ill since falling down at his residence two months ago. Born on June 28, 1937 in Nagpur , he came to Aurangabad for college education. Pantawane was the head of Marathi department of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathawada University.

Padma awardee, Pantawane was the president of the first world Marathi Sahitya Sammelan and had good relations with leading figures like P L Deshpande and Kusumagraj. He carried away the movement of Dalit literature Asmitadarsh and created many famous writers and poets . His penned books include, 'Valuation', 'Rebellion water has erupted', 'Muknayak (character of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar)', 'Dalit Prabodhan', Descendants of the storm', 'Direction of awakening', ' Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar', 'Halgi',' Chaitya', 'Dalit Ideal Vaudhay', 'Caves'.

His literature are 'Nature and Spirituality', 'Materials Search' and 'Dialogues, Blessings' and his edited texts are 'Dalit Autobiography', 'Dalit Stories', 'Ideal Ages: Dr.Babasaheb Ambedkar', 'Principal of People's Party: M. Jotiba Phule,' ,'Maharishra's cultural history, Lokranga', 'Female utobiography,Dharmacarcha', 'Dalit literature: Discussion and meditation', ' Selected essay by Babasaheb Ambedkar.'Pantawane's awards include 'Maharashtra State Textbook Award (Literary: Prakriti and Tendency)', 'Maharashtra State Book Award' and 'Maharashtra Sahitya Parishad Pune Award (Dalit Literature: Discussion and Meditation).'
