Chiranjivee Prasad is new Aurangabad city Police Commissioner

Nanded Range Inspector General of Police (IGP) Chiranjivee Prasad will soon take over as the new Aurangabad City Police Commissioner, sources said on Friday. There was no full time Police Commissioner for this city, as previous Police Commissioner Yashasvi Yadav was sent on compulsory leave after the incident of violence at Mitmita village over the issue of garbage dumping. Since then, Aurangabad range IGP Milind Bharambe has been given a charge of the City Police commissioner.

Eight police personnel were injured in stone-pelting as locals opposed dumping of garbage at Padegaon-Mitmita village on the outskirts of Aurangabad in central Maharashtra on March 7. The mob set on fire two garbage trucks of the Aurangabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) apart from damaging two police vehicles, police had said. Mr Prasad, 1996 IPS batch officer, served as SP of Aurangabad rural and Jalna during 2002 to 2005. He was also member of special squad to investigate 26/11 terrorist attack on Mumbai.

He has served as DIG of Nagpur and after that he worked in CRPF. From 2015 onwards, he has been posted as IGP of Nanded division, the sources added.
