Lord Buddhas birth anniversary celebrated in Marathawada

Buddha Purnima, marking the2562th birth anniversary of Lord Gautam Buddha, was celebrated withtraditional fervour and enthusiasm in the Marathawada region as wellacross Maharashtra on Monday. Various government, semi-government organisations, political partiesand political organisations celebrated the birth anniversary of LordBuddha by organising functions to mark the event.

In Aurangabad city, a 'Buddhavandana' programme was held thismorning in front of Lord Buddha statues in Siddarth Garden andBuddha caves situated at university locality separately. Among the various programmes organised at different places in cityincluded a cleanliness drive, 'shoba yatra' and 'geet gayan'.

'Shramner shibir' had been organised in presence of Badant NagsenBodhi Mahatero. A musical programme on Lord Buddha, called 'Buddha Pahat', was alsoheld this morning at TV centre locality.

Later in the evening, a rally, under the guidance of Boudha BikshuSangh, was taken out from Kranthi chowk to statue of Dr BabasahebAmbedkar at Bhadkal gate. After paying tributes to Dr Ambedkar, therally concluded at Siddarth garden. Reports reaching here from the rest of seven districts in the regionalso stated that similar celebratory functions were held to mark the event.
