Industries Minister urges Maha CM not to implement Nanar refinery

Maharashtra Industries Minister and senior Shiv Sena leader Subhas Desai on Friday appealed to Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis not to implement Nanar refinery project in coastal Konkan region of the state, in view of local villagers opposition tothe proposed project. Talking to media persons after a meeting with city industrialists here, he said that ten gram panchayats in Konkan region have already passed a resolution against the project.

"Why is the state government implementing the project forcefully, as local public was against it," he said. Citing an example of Sterlite project in Tamil Nadu, where 14 people were killed in police firing during agitation against the project. "Such a situation may arise in Konkan also, if government implements the project," he added. Mr Desai was in city to know the views of city industrialists before implementing new industrial policy.
