Transporters' stir enters 4th day, affects services in Marathwada


The nation-wide 'chakkajam'(strike) called by All India Motor Transport Congress to protestagainst rising diesel prices on daily basis across the countryentered fourth day on Monday, leaving the transport services of markets and industries in entire Marathwada region of Maharashtra paralyses. 

Aurangabad Goods Transport Association president Fayyaz Khan todaysaid that about 95 lakh truckers from all over the country were participating in strike which entered fourth day today, affectingdaily works of a number of industries here as transportation oftheir products and raw materials has come to a standstill.

Apart from this, the supply of fruits and vegetables was also halteddue to ongoing strike, leading to a spike in their prices in themarkets. Some of the markets were seen empty. He further said that due to strike, the livelihood of a number ofpeople who are working as drivers and labourers, was in trouble.

"We will continue our strike till our demands are met by thegovernemnt," he added.
