Maratha Kranti Morcha stage 'thiyya andolan' in Marathwada

The activists of the Maratha Kranti Morcha on Wednesday staged 'thiyya andolan' (sit-in) at Jalnaand Latur districts of the Marathwada region demanding reservationfor the community. In Jalna, activists of MKS staged agitation this morning near Sambhaji Maharaj statue and appealed to the members of the community to join stir. While in Latur, MKS activists tried to proceed towards residence of state minister Sambhaji Patil-Nilangekar for their thiyya agitation this morning but they were stopped by police. Later, they staged the agitation for some time.

In a related development, a 17-year-old class X passed studentPradip Maskhe from Vadodbazar village in Phulambri taluka of indistrict, who belonged to Maratha community, allegedly committed suicide by jumping into a well on Tuesday for failing to get admission in class XI. With his death, seven people have died in reservation relatedagitation across the state. Meanwhile, 'dashavidhi' (tenth day ceremony) of late Kakasaheb Shinde, first victim of Maratha reservation movement, was performed at Toka Ghat in Kaigaon under heavy police security. The vehicular traffic passing on the bridge, from where he had jumped into the river, was diverted by the police as a precautionary measure.

The activists have named the spot as 'Kakasaheb Shinde Setu', which was inaugurated by his mother after the 'dashavidhi' ceremony.
