Senior NCP leader Oberoi passes away



The former mayor of Aurangabad city and senior NCP leader Manmohan Singh Oberoi passed away on Tuesday after a prolonged illness, family sources said. He was 72 and is survived by his wife, four daughters, a son and two brothers. He was getting treatment in a private hospital since last month, sources said.

Oberoi worked in various capacities, including working president of city Congress along with city president S T Pradhan in 1988-1989. Later, he becomes the mayor of Aurangabad city as well as Deputy Mayor. When Sharad Pawar floated his new party, 'Nationalist Congress Party (NCP)' in 1999, Oberoi also joined it and served on various party positions, including NCP city chief and group leader in Aurangabad in Municipal Corporation. 

He was also the chairman of Guru Tej Bahadur Education society in Aurangabad and the district president of Taxi union of Aurangabad. Getting the news of his demise, political leaders, including NCP office bearers rushed to take last darshan of the departed leader. The funeral will take place tomorrow morning at Pratapnagar crematorium ground, sources said.
