BJP MLA Bamb blames Vikhe-Patil for delaying release of 8.99 TMC

BJP MLA from Gangapur, Prashant Bamb, on Tuesday accused Leader of Opposition in the Maharashtra Assembly, Radhakrishna Vikhe-Patil, of delaying the release of 8.99 TMC water into Jaykawadi dam in Marathwada region from upstream dams in Ahmednagar and Nashik districts, as per the direction from MWRRA to GIDC. He said that the political leaders from these districts first filed a petition in the Bombay high court to stay the order of Maharashtra Water Resources Regulatory Authority (MWRRA) but the court refused to grant a stay.

Later, the leaders from these districts, including Mr Vikhe-Patil, filed the petition in the Supreme Court seeking a stay on the order, the BJP MLA said. Mr. Bamb accused the Opposition leader of making a demand to declare drought on one hand but deliberately delaying the release of water to the parched Marathwada region in order to save their sugar factories, he claimed.

He also accused Mr. Vikhe-Patil of making 'bogus' claims that there is a sufficient water stock in the dams of Marathwada and farmers of this region are stealing water. Meanwhile, farmers from Gangapur and Paithan today waved black flags to Mr. Vikhe-Patil at Cambridge chowk on Aurangabad-Jalna road when he was proceeding to Jalna to participate in the Congress party'sJansangarsha Yatra, Mr. Bamb added.
