NCP has asked for 50-50 seat formula : Pawar

NCP chief and former Union minister Sharad Pawar on Thursday said that his party and theCongress have almost agreed on sharing of a majority of 48 Lok Sabha seats in Maharashtra, except for four to five seats. Addressing a news conference here, he said that during the talks held between NCP and Congress on sharing of seat in forthcoming election, the leaders of both the parties have nearly finalized a majority of seats, except for four to five, on which another round of talks will be held between the leaders of both the parties. He said that this time NCP has asked for 50-50 seat formula taking into account the Congress party's current strength vis-a-vis NCP.

"If the issue of sharing of seats remains unresolved for some of the seats, then myself and Congress president Rahul Gandhi will discuss and sort out the issue," Mr. Pawar said. Talking about the Aurangabad LS seat, he said that in view of past performance of the Congress, NCP may ask Congress to allotAurangabad LS seat to them in exchange for other. 

On 'Mahagatbandhan' at the national level to fight against BJP in forthcoming Lok Sabha election, the NCP chief said that prominent opposition leaders from across the country have held talks on this and they suggested to allot seats based on the party's performance in their respective states, he added.

Talking about Shiv Sena president Uddhav Thackeray's demand for construction of Ram temple at Ayodhya, Mr. Pawar stated, "Our country has opted for secularism, hence, the issue of religion and case should not come into politics.
