MJVP demands stern action against Mah minister Ram Shinde

The Marathwada Janata Vikas Parishad (MJVP) on Sunday demanded to take a stern action against Maharashtra Minister of Water Resources, Ram Shinde, for making a provocative statement on the release of water into Jayakwadi dam situated in parched backward Marathwada region. During his visit to review the drought condition at Sangamner when the Shiv Sena workers demanded to repeal the Maharashtra WaterResources Regulatory Authority (MWRRA) Act, Mr Shinde instead of defending the government's policy on release of water as per a high court directive accepted their demand of change in law and made an inflammatory statement, thus putting fuel in already serious and tense situation, advocate Pradip Deshmukh, president of MJVP, stated in a statement here.

He further said that the state government has filed an affidavit in the court and gave an assurance of implementing the high court order in letter and spirit but a responsible minister of state has made such a statement, he pointed out. Therefore, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Shiv Sena presidentUddhav Thackeray should make their stand clear on releasing the water from upstream dams into Jayakwadi, the MJVP chief demanded. Mr. Fadnavis should take prompt steps before the situation becomes worse and ensure that water is released to the Jayakwadi dam at the earliest, Adv Deshmukh added.
