Maratha members take out yatra for reservation

The members of Maratha Kranthi Morcha and Sakal Maratha Samaj on Friday took out 'Maratha Samvad Yatra' in city for gaining support of reservation for Maratha community in higher education and government jobs. The decision was taken by the morcha, a day after the State Backward Commission submitted a detailed report to the government on reservation for the Marathas.

As the winter session of the state Legislative Assembly is to start next week, the Yatra will be undertaken in every district to remind the government of the demands of the Maratha community, co-coordinator of morcha Atmaram Shinde told UNI. All the yatras will reach the state assembly in Mumbai on November 26, Mr Shinde said.

Their other demands include capital punishment for the Kopardi gangrape accused, hostels and scholarships for Maratha students, taking back cases filed against youths during the Maratha agitation. Meanwhile, activists of Maratha Kranti Morcha continued with their fast on 14th day on Friday at Azad Maidan in Mumbai. They have vowed to continue their fast until all their demands are accepted by the state government.
