Mah APMC operations to be affected by labor union strike on Nov 27

Maharashtra Rajya Hamal Mapadi Mahamandal(MRHMM) has decided to go on a token strike on November 27 so as to protest against the government's decision to make certain amendments in the Mathadi Act,1969 which govern these manual workers.
"All the hamal (porters) and mapadi (weighing machine operators) across the state of Maharashtra will participate in a day long token strike to be held at Azad Maidan in Mumbai," MRHMM Secretary Sathi Subhash Lomate said in a statement on Saturday.
In a meeting held on November 21 at Azad Maidan in Mumbai,MRHMM State President Dr Baba Adhav took a decision to stall the operations of porting and weighing of harvest across the agricultural produce markets across the districts of Maharashtra.
"The Mathadi Act has been in place for last 50 years instead of celebrating its golden jubilee, the government is trying to impinge on the rights of manual labourers by manipulating provisions in the Mathadi Act,1969,"stated Mr Lomate.
Mr Lomate alleged that the government has sacked the elected members of Agricultural produce market committee(APMC) and installed the representatives who favor the proposed changes in the labour law. "This is a violation of the democratic norm," Mr Lomate added.
